 Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon 12. Juni 2005
In einem Feld der absoluten Weltklasse belegt Katja am Sonntag beim Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon einen guten 10 Platz. Susan Williams die Bronze Medaillen Gewinnerin der Olympischen Spiele von Athen gewinnt das berühmte Rennen in San Francisco vor Barb Linquist aus den USA, Dritte wurde Samantha Mc Glone die Senkrechtstarterin der Saison, die in diesem Jahr schon den Half Ironman in Kalifornien und Wildflower gewonnen hatte.
Katja sagt nach dem Rennen: „ Ich hatte heute nicht mein bestes Rennen, und habe nach so langer Wettkampfpause einige „Anfängerfehler“ gemacht und mir fehlt die Tempohärte, aber ich bin so glücklich wieder zu starten, es hat unglaublich Spaß gemacht!“
Katja beendete das Rennen einen Platz hinter Joanna Lawn, der anderen Ironman Triathletin in einem Feld von Olympic Distanz Spezialistinnen.
Aber sie war nicht ganz zufrieden mit Ihrer Leistung: „Ich kam nicht aus meinem Neopren und habe eine Minute in der Wechselzone verloren, das ist verschwendete Zeit.“ Kritisiert sie: „Außerdem bin ich die Laufstrecke schon im Training nach einem 130km Radtraining in der gleichen Zeit gelaufen, ich sollte in der Lage sein im Rennen schneller zu laufen, ich weis nicht was ich gemacht habe.“
Katja startet in 2 Wochen beim Mountaineer Triathlon in Morgantown, WV und fliegt dann nach Deutschland für mehrere Rennen.

Katja finished 10th in a world class field at the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon on Sunday. Susan Williams the bronze medalist of the Olympic Games in Athens won the famous event in San Francisco, second was Barb Lindquist and third Samantha Mc Glone, who already won the Half Ironman California and Wildflower this year.
Katja after the race: “I did not have my best race today. After such a long break from racing I did some “beginner mistakes” and I don’t have the speed yet to race with those short course girls, but I was just happy to be out there racing, I had a blast!
She finished one spot behind Joanna Lawn the other Ironman athlete in the field of Olympic distance specialists; she had won Ironman New Zealand earlier this year.
Not a bad start, but she wasn’t all happy with her performance:” I did get stuck in my wetsuit, and lost 1min in transition. That’s just a waste of free time.” She said: “I also had run the course in training after an 80mile bike ride and did the same time as in the race. I don’t know what I was doing. I know I can run faster than that.”
Katja will be racing the Mountaineer Triathlon in Morgantown, WV in a couple of weeks, then flying to Germany for a series of races.
