What an exiting day in Kona!!!
Katja Schumacher finishes in 6th place at the Ironman World Championships and wins the bragging rights as the first German Woman finisher. A beautiful blue sea, and a nearly cloudless sky provided the backdrop for one of the most exciting women's races in history. After an impressive swim and a bike ride through the Kona blast furnance heat, Katja found herself in 9th place at 21 miles exiting the world famous Energy Lab. Digging deep into her suitcase full courage, Katja turned on the power and slowly reeled in her competition. She ended her assault on the blistering hot pavement of Kona with an all out sprint over the last 400 meters that secured her a 6th place finish at the Ironman World Championship!
