September 10, 2005

Pacific Grove was the 3rd race of the series 2005. Carol Montgomery from Canada won in front of Alexis Wadell closely followed by Patrice Wolfensberger both from the USA. Katja placed in 4th after coming out of the water 1:13 back from Montgomery and Wolfensberger they closed the gap on the bike after about 10 miles, but couldn’t drop them on the flat course until the very end, where Alexis attacked and finished the bike about 30sec ahead of the pack including Montgomery, Wolfensberger, Schumacher and Homo. The Olympic 10 km runner Montgomery took the lead on the run after about 2 miles and won with a 45 sec lead over Alexis Wadell. Katja felt flat on the run, but a 4th place in a field of short course athletes only 3 weeks after Ironman UK is a reasonable result. Katja:” This was my first faster “workout” in 3 weeks, and a good jump start into my Ironman Hawaii training. I did not expect to be fast. But I love the Tricalifornia races and I really would like to do the series.”
