 Wente Rad Rennen am 23. April 05
McWire takes the win:
Liz sprintet zum Sieg im 33 Meilen langen und hügeligen Radrennen um die Weinberge des Wente Vineyards Weinguts im Norden von Kalifornien.
Nach dem 2. langen, harten Anstieg im Wente Vineyard Road Race sind 2 Gruppen an der Spitze des Rennens übrig. Eine Gruppe mit 3 Fahrerinnen vorn mit Liz von meinem Team McWire und nur 10 sec dahinter die Verfolgergruppe von 4 Fahrerinnen, in der ich mich befinde. Beide Gruppen fahren hart, die vordere Gruppe, um ihren Abstand zu halten oder zu vergrößern und unsere Gruppe versucht aufzuholen. Aber der Abstand bleibt bei 10 sec für die gesamten 10 Meilen. Ich beteilige mich nicht an der Aufholarbeit, denn meine Teamkollegin hat gute Chancen, wenn ihre Gruppe den Abstand halten kann.
Dann kurz vor dem Fuße des Hügels zum Ziel fangen die Vorne an Spielchen zu spielen, sich gegenseitig anzuschauen und es sieht für ein paar Sekunden so aus als, würden wir sie einholen, aber dann sieht Liz wie nah die Verfolger sind und sie machen wieder Tempo.
Liz ist in perfekter Ausgangsposition, am Rad der stärksten Fahrerin. Und im Sprint schafft sie den Sieg mit einer Radänge.
Auch meine Gruppe sprintet jetzt und ich werde 5. Ein super Ergebnis für mich und besonders für mein Team.

Mc Wire takes the win
Liz sprints for the win in an uphill finish at the 33 mile hilly road race at the Wente Vineyards.
After the second longer hard climb in the Wente road race, there is a 3 person break in the front, with 4 chasing 10sec behind. Its about 10 miles to the finish. Liz from WcWire is in the front group, I am in the chase group. Perfect for us. I am just sitting in and watch, both groups are working hard, the front to stay away and our group to catch up, but the gap stays the same throughout the 10 miles. Then a little before the bottom of the hill to the finish the front 3 start looking at each other, slowing down. It looks for a few seconds, as if we are going to catch them, but then I see Liz look back, seeing us right behind, and they start going again. With Liz in perfect 2nd position, behind the girl, that had won a lot of races lately. She goes and outspints her. Now I am sprinting too. A little too early, as I still had one girl on my wheel, who goes around me. So I finish 5th. A good result for me, and great for our team.
