San Diego in California is the training mekka for triathlon every year before the Ironman World Championships in Hawai. Both World Champions, male and female, from last year train and prepare here. That's one of the reasons why I come here, I think it's just perfect to get ready for the biggest race of the year. With warm climate, hilly but not mountainous, only 6h flight and 3h time change to Hawaii, great swim programs and lots of good people o train with it provites everything you need. I came a couple of weeks ago and living in Germany only 20min away from Norman Stadler (last years male champion), I had done some of my hard trainings with him, trying to hold his wheel on the bike is a challenge, even in the flats. He is here with 3 team maids, so I have done many of my fast trainings with the boys,... well, kind of with the boys. Usually I start a little ahead, then let them catch me, jump on and see how long I can stay with them. And lots of times I have acctually surprised myself and stayed on for the rest of the way.
It's fun, the boys are very suportive and encouraging, we have a great time and I feel like I am getting in great shape. Now it's one more week of hard training, then with 3 weeks out, I will start cutting back the miles.
Thanks for reading, the race is on Okt. 13th. I'll let you know how it went.
