Training in the Off-season
Inline skating:
Skating is a great way of getting in shape in the winter. It trains the cycling muscles and you don’t get as cold, as on the bike. I sometimes use cross country poles with it, it’s almost like skiing, except the nice white snow is missing.
I skate 2-3 times a week 45min to 2 hours at a time. My favorite loop is in New York City from 66th street along the Hudson river all the way down to the Statue of Liberty and back, it takes me about 1h.
Skiing:
This is my absolute favorite. Probably not the best endurance training, but it increases strength. And being out there from 9am to 4pm you can be sure you are nice and tired at night, save some energy for the ever fun après ski!

Running:
I love the runs in the Heidelberg forest. But running central park has its own beauty.
My runs are still all slow and aerobic. Between 30min and 2h.
Swimming:
Too bad I am not in San Diego right now!
Spinning:
It’s fun. Loud blasting music and sweat, sweat, sweat!!!
